Mr Niels Ravn has now been appointed the first Director of Nordic Patent Institute. He assumed his new position on 1st January 2008, the same day as the Institute started its operations.
Niels Ravn comes from a position as Senior Policy Advisor in the Department for International Affairs of the Danish Patent and Trademark Office. For the last five to six years, he has worked as the Nordic co-manager of the project to establish the Nordic Patent Institute.
Niels Ravn is a civil engineer and has occupied a number of high posts during his long career in the Danish Patent and Trademark Office, including that of Deputy Director.
"We are very satisfied that Niels Ravn becomes the first Director of the Nordic Patent Institute. He has been one of the driving forces behind the creation of the Institute and has served his post as project manager for this highly complex enterprise in a very satisfactory way. Together with his long and varied national and international experience in the industrial property area, this makes him eminently suited for the new post", says Jesper Kongstad (DK), Ásta Valdimarsdóttir (IS) and Jørgen Smith (NO), the three Board members of the Nordic Patent Institute.
The Director is the sole employee of the new PCT authority, as it is mainly a virtual organization. The Nordic Patent Institute purchases search and examination services and administrative services from the three member countries. The authority is physically located in Taastrup, Denmark, in a separate office within the Danish Patent and Trademark Office.
