The number of PCT applications from Danish applicants took an unexpected leap upwards during the first months of this year. The number of applications from Danish users in the first quarter of 2011 was almost 105% more than for the same period in 2010.

Changes in PCT fees from 1 January 2011

On 1 January 2011 some minor changes in the PCT fees will enter into force. These changes are due to corrections made by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with regard to the equivalent amounts in Swiss francs (CHF).

The business of providing individual searches and analyses has been successfully transferred from the Danish Patent Office to Nordic Patent Institute.
The increase in turnover from 2009 to 2010 has been approx 15 %. Most of the increase comes from our growing customer portfolio of US law firms.
PCT filings continue to increase

The number of filings where Nordic Patent Institute is designated as an ISA or IPEA continued to increase steadily in 2010. Taking into account the number of filings estimated in December, the Institute expects an increase of almost 50% from 2009 to 2010.
The outlook for 2011 is positive as global PCT filings are increasing again after the first ever decline in 2009.

Norwegians prefer Nordic Patent Institute

Figures for 2010 confirm the fact that Nordic Patent Institute is now the preferred PCT Authority in Norway. Since its founding in 2008, the proportion of PCT applications filed at the Institute by Norwegian customers has increased from 16% to 41%. EPO is used by 39% and PRV by 20%.
