Legal Framework
Nordic Patent Institute is an international organisation established by the governments of Denmark, Iceland and Norway. The legal basis for the organisation is the Agreement on the Establishing of the Nordic Patent Institute. The Agreement provides the general basis for the establishment, functioning and financing of the organisation. Furthermore, the Agreement provides the legal basis for the other legal instruments of the organisation.
Based on the provisions of the Agreement, two sets of Regulations have been established. The first part contains provisions pertaining to the internal management of the Institute, while the second part contains further details as to provisions of an external nature, including details of the services offered to the Institute’s customers. This second part will be available on this website.
In addition, Nordic Patent Institute shall fulfil its legal obligations as an international PCT Authority, and shall act according to standardised agreements with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) in this respect.
